Registering in Switzerland
Four steps to the AHV.

Employer registration

Find your fund
The compensation fund of your home canton. Your postcode is enough.

Fill in the form
Usually the federal form 318.147. Under «Employment for», pick «Domestic service».

Choose the procedure
Up to CHF 22'680 per person and 60'480 in total a year, the simplified procedure applies.

Add your cook
With the AHV number (756.…) and the first working day, within one month.
Accident insurance never happens by itself. You tick it when you register, where the fund offers it, or you take out a policy.
Deadline: within a month of the first working day. The confirmation usually takes a few weeks.

Do I have to register my private cook with the AHV?
Yes, if you employ her directly. Cooking for a private household counts as domestic work and is subject to AHV from the first franc. Even for just a few hours a week.
What if a catering company comes instead?
If a company or a person recognised as self-employed invoices you, they settle their own contributions. In that case you have nothing to register.
What does registering via Clino cost?
CHF 19.90 per month. A flat fee, no matter how many hours your private cook works. The first 30 days are free.
My cook works for several households: is she self-employed?
No. Someone who cooks for several private households is still an employee. Of each household separately. Only an official self-employed status granted by the compensation office changes that.
What happens in case of an accident?
A kitchen is accident-prone. Burns, knife cuts, hot fat. Without accident insurance the Ersatzkasse UVG pays and then charges you substitute premiums (Art. 95 UVG). You take out the policy yourself, often right when you register. Clino shows you how and builds the premium into every payslip.
