Ticino stacks three wage floors. The cantonal one is the lowest.
No other canton piles up this many rules: a federal NAV, a cantonal minimum wage and a cantonal standard employment contract. For your household they almost always come out at the same figure, just not the one in the cantonal statute.
NAV for household work: CHF 20.35
The federal NAV covers household work from an average of five weekly hours with the same employer and cannot be contracted away. With four years' experience it is CHF 22.30, with a federal diploma CHF 24.55. Staff mainly occupied with childcare fall outside it.
The same table, two duties more
Ticino's cantonal standard contract for domestic staff covers every full- or part-time employment in the canton, provided the employee is mainly occupied with the work of the house, and its Art. 22 sets the same rates. With no hours threshold. On top come a thirteenth month (Art. 23) and continued wage payment from the first day of the contract (Art. 22c). You can only depart from it in writing.
LSM minimum wage: CHF 20.00
The cantonal minimum wage act sets CHF 20.00 for private households. That is below the other two floors, so it is not what you pay. It is the absolute line, and it governs where the federal NAV does not reach: below five weekly hours, or where the work is mainly childcare.
The rates are quoted before supplements. Art. 22 para. 1 states the hourly rates expressly without vacation and paid-holiday compensation. In its January 2026 guide the cantonal labour inspectorate works out CHF 20.35 + 8.33 % vacation + 3.6 % public holidays = CHF 22.78/h for an hourly-paid unskilled worker, and tests compliance against that figure. For a fixed monthly salary the same guide says those supplements are not owed.
Honestly: You do have one duty fewer in Ticino: the cantonal contract requires no daily-sickness-benefit insurance, and its Art. 19 only asks you to check at hiring that your employee has health cover. That is not a relief. Under Art. 22c the wage is owed from day one, and with no insurer behind it you carry that yourself.
If she falls ill: how long you keep paying the wage
How many days of full wage you owe in Ticino depends on the year of service. This is the table that binds here when no policy sits behind it.
- Year 121 days of full wage
- Year 230 days of full wage
- Year 360 days of full wage
- Year 590 days of full wage
- Year 10120 days of full wage
- Year 20180 days of full wage
Canton Ticino has no sick-pay duty. That is no relief: the wage is still owed, and with no policy behind it you carry it yourself.

Frequently asked questions
How do I register my cleaner with the Istituto delle assicurazioni sociali (IAS)?
With IAS form 111 (the questionnaire for the simplified procedure), sent to Bellinzona by post or e-mail within a month of the start of work. The filings then go through the AVSeasy portal. Clino fills in the form with your data.
What is the FAK rate in the Canton of Ticino?
The family allowance contribution (FAK) is 1.90% of gross wages in the Canton of Ticino, paid solely by the employer. Clino calculates this automatically.
What minimum wage applies to a cleaner in Ticino?
In Ticino the cantonal standard contract for household staff applies: at least CHF 20.35 an hour from the first hour, unless the contract says otherwise in writing. Even then, the cantonal minimum wage of CHF 20.00 applies. From 5 hours a week the federal NAV at CHF 20.35 is binding anyway.
What child allowances apply in the Canton of Ticino?

What is the simplified procedure (VAV) in Ticino?
Under the simplified procedure you settle AHV/IV/EO, unemployment insurance and a 5 % withholding tax once a year through the compensation office (IAS Ticino). It is optional and applies up to CHF 22'680 of annual wage per person. Accident insurance (UVG) is only included if you choose the plus option when you register. Otherwise you take it out yourself with an insurer.
What happens if I don't register my cleaner in Ticino?
An employer who does not join a compensation office and settle the wages commits an offence under the AHV Act: a monetary penalty of up to 180 daily units (Art. 87 AHVG). On top come the social insurance contributions, as a rule back-dated up to 5 years.
What does Clino cost?
CHF 19.90 per month: flat rate. First 30 days free. Cancel monthly.
What does the AHV registration cost in Ticino?
Registration itself is free. Only the social contributions apply: AHV/IV/EO 10.6% and ALV 2.2% (split in half), plus the cantonal FAK contribution (employer only) and UVG. Clino calculates all Ticino rates automatically.
From what wage must I register my cleaner with the AHV?
In a private household, AHV registration is mandatory from the first franc – across Switzerland, including in Ticino. Only wages of employees up to age 25, up to CHF 750/year, stay exempt, unless the employee asks to pay contributions.
