Answer in 30 seconds

If you already use KLARA for your business, or if you only run payroll a few times a year, KLARA Home is the cheaper route. If you want the whole household administration covered month after month, the specialist Clino is the simpler solution. With both, you sign and submit yourself.

  • KLARA Home: CHF 7.90 per payroll run, no published monthly or annual fixed fee, no commission
  • Clino: CHF 19.90/month all inclusive - AHV, withholding tax, UVG, salary certificate
  • Who files? You do, with both. KLARA and Clino prepare the AHV registration; you sign and send it
  • Common combination: KLARA for the business, Clino for the household

KLARA is one of the best-known Swiss platforms for accounting, payroll and administration. It is operated by ePost Service AG, a company of the Swiss Post group. With KLARA Home, private individuals can also run payroll for their domestic worker.

That sounds convenient, especially if you already use KLARA for your business. But KLARA Home is one product line within a broad business software suite. Clino, on the other hand, was built from the ground up for one single purpose: managing domestic employees in Switzerland.

In this article we compare KLARA Home and Clino using the figures both providers publish themselves: prices, features, who files what, and who each solution suits best.

Transparency: this comparison is published by Clino, one of the two providers being compared. We are not neutral. That is why we name the source and check date for every figure, and why we also spell out where Clino comes off worse than KLARA.

KLARA Home and Clino at a Glance

KLARA is an established Swiss platform with modules for accounting, invoicing, payroll, taxes and more. KLARA Home is the offering for private individuals employing a domestic worker. According to klara.ch it costs CHF 7.90 per payroll run. No monthly or annual fixed fee is stated, and no commission on the wage either.

Clino is a pure specialist for household employers: AHV registration, payslips, employment contract, accident insurance, withholding tax and year-end statement, all for CHF 19.90 per month and all tailored to Swiss household employment.

The core difference is the pricing model and the depth: KLARA charges per payroll run and covers an entire business universe alongside it. Clino charges a flat monthly fee and solves only this one problem, but completely.

KLARA Home is operated by ePost Service AG (Swiss Post group) and is one of several product lines in a wider business software suite. It is not listed in the pricing configurator at klara.ch/preise. If you already use KLARA for your business, the integration can be convenient.

Feature Comparison: What Do KLARA Home and Clino Offer?

Both solutions cover the basics of household employment, including the simplified procedure. The differences lie in the pricing model and in the depth of household-specific features.

As checked on 14.08.2026 on klara.ch. "Not publicly stated" means we found no information about it on KLARA's public pages. It does not mean the feature is missing. KLARA features and prices may change.

KLARA Home covers payroll solidly and supports the simplified procedure (vereinfachtes Abrechnungsverfahren), which you activate under the "Arbeitgeber" menu. Clino specialises in this one use case and additionally covers withholding tax, family allowances and the year-end statement canton by canton. In return, Clino bills you every month while KLARA only bills per payroll run.

Who files the AHV registration? With both, you do

This is the point comparisons get wrong most often, including earlier versions of this article. KLARA states on its own page: "We prepare the OASI registration forms for you and you then send the signed documents to the relevant authority."

That is exactly how Clino works. We prepare the paperwork, you sign it and send it in. Clino transmits nothing to a compensation office, an insurer or a tax authority. On this axis KLARA Home and Clino are equivalent. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you a story.

One nuance: if you are already registered as an employer with the AHV, KLARA files the notification for a new employee itself, in its own words "with just a few clicks". The initial employer registration is one you send yourself in both cases.

Cost Comparison: What Do You Pay?

The two pricing models cannot be set directly against each other: KLARA Home charges per payroll run, Clino per month. If you run payroll rarely, KLARA is cheaper. If you run it every month and want the full administration, Clino is.

KLARA Home

  • CHF 7.90 per payroll run (klara.ch, checked on 14.08.2026, identical on the French and English pages)
  • No published monthly or annual fixed fee and no commission on the wage
  • Accident insurance is separate: KLARA brokers a legally compliant option in cooperation with Mobiliar and states CHF 100 per year for it. That premium is not part of the CHF 7.90

Clino

  • CHF 19.90/month, everything included
  • No hidden costs, no add-on modules, CHF 238.80 per year
  • 30-day free trial, cancel anytime

The rule of thumb: up to roughly two payroll runs a month, KLARA Home is arithmetically cheaper than Clino, because CHF 7.90 per run stays below CHF 19.90 per month. Clino pays off when you also want withholding tax, family allowances, accident insurance and the year-end statement prepared from a single source.

What KLARA does not publicly state about KLARA Home

  • Whether the CHF 7.90 is charged per run, per employee or per month when several employees are paid in a single run.
  • Whether the CHF 7.90 includes VAT. KLARA's general terms treat prices as excluding VAT by default.
  • Whether a free trial applies to KLARA Home. KLARA advertises a 30-day free trial for its Widget Store products, but not specifically for KLARA Home.
  • Which cancellation terms apply to KLARA Home specifically. The general terms state that monthly plans end at any month-end and that annual plans need 30 days' notice before the contract year ends, otherwise they renew for another year.

Who picks your insurer?

All four handle payroll and registration. On insurance they differ sharply.

Specialist vs. All-Rounder: When Which Solution?

The choice between KLARA Home and Clino depends on how often you run payroll and how much administration you want to hand over:

KLARA Home is right for you if...

  • You already use KLARA for your business and want everything on one platform
  • You only need a few payroll runs a year and prefer to pay per run (CHF 7.90)
  • You want accounting, invoicing and household employment in one tool
  • A provider from the Swiss Post group matters to you

Clino is right for you if...

  • You want a specialist for household employment that covers everything
  • You need AHV registration, withholding tax, UVG and year-end statement in one package
  • You run payroll every month and want a fixed price (CHF 19.90/month = everything)
  • You need canton-specific calculations for all 26 cantons
  • You want to try free for 30 days before deciding

Where both solutions hit their limits

A comparison that only lists the strengths of its own product helps nobody. Here are the weaknesses, ours first:

Clino's limitations

  • Clino costs CHF 19.90 per month, CHF 238.80 a year, including months with no payroll. If you only run payroll a handful of times a year, KLARA's CHF 7.90 per run is clearly cheaper.
  • Clino does no bookkeeping, no invoicing and no company tax return. If you want one tool for everything, KLARA serves you better.
  • Clino files nothing with a compensation office, an insurer or a tax authority. You sign and send it yourself.
  • Clino does not match you with a domestic worker. You have to find the person yourself.

KLARA Home's limitations

  • The price appears only on the page for private individuals. KLARA Home is not listed in the pricing configurator at klara.ch/preise.
  • Accident insurance is brokered, not included. The CHF 100 per year KLARA states for it comes on top of the CHF 7.90 per payroll run.
  • Whether withholding tax, family allowances and the annual salary certificate are covered by KLARA Home is not publicly stated.
  • KLARA Home is one product line in a broad business suite. If you only manage one household, you get a lot of surroundings you do not need.

Our honest conclusion: KLARA is an excellent platform, and in two situations it is plainly the better choice: when you already run KLARA for your business, and when you run payroll only occasionally. Twelve payroll runs a year cost CHF 94.80 with KLARA and CHF 238.80 with Clino. Clino pays off when you want the entire household administration prepared continuously and canton by canton, without handling withholding tax, family allowances and the year-end statement yourself.

What matters in the end: register your domestic worker properly. Whether with KLARA Home, Clino or another provider, the main thing is that it is legal. Because undeclared work is not an option.

Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is KLARA Home?+

KLARA Home is the KLARA platform's offering for private individuals employing a domestic worker. It is operated by ePost Service AG, a company of the Swiss Post group. It covers payroll and is one of several product lines in a business software suite developed primarily for SMEs.

What does KLARA Home cost?+

CHF 7.90 per payroll run, as stated on klara.ch on 14.08.2026 and identically on the French and English versions. No monthly or annual fixed fee is stated, and no commission on the wage. Not publicly stated: whether the CHF 7.90 applies per run, per employee or per month when several employees are paid in one run, and whether the amount includes VAT. KLARA's general terms treat prices as excluding VAT by default.

Why should I choose Clino over KLARA Home?+

Because with Clino everything is included in the package price of CHF 19.90 per month: AHV registration, payroll, withholding tax, UVG, employment contract and year-end statement, canton-specific for all 26 cantons. The reverse is also true: if you only need a few payroll runs a year, KLARA's CHF 7.90 per run costs less.

Can I use KLARA for my business and Clino for the household?+

Yes, that is a common combination. Many users keep KLARA for business accounting and use Clino for household employment. That way you benefit from the specialisation of both tools.

Does KLARA file the AHV registration for me?+

No. KLARA states it itself: "We prepare the OASI registration forms for you and you then send the signed documents to the relevant authority." Clino works to the same model: we prepare the paperwork, you sign and submit. Clino transmits nothing to a compensation office, an insurer or a tax authority. One nuance at KLARA: if you are already registered as an employer with the AHV, KLARA files the notification for a new employee itself.

Does KLARA Home support the simplified procedure?+

Yes. The simplified procedure (vereinfachtes Abrechnungsverfahren) can be activated in KLARA Home under the "Arbeitgeber" menu. Clino supports it too. On this axis the two providers do not differ.
