A plan only you know about changes nothing. Four steps turn it into a shared agreement.
- 1Walk through it together before the first shift: show the plan to your household employee before it applies. She will see at once what is realistic in the agreed hours and what is not.
- 2Print it and send the PDF: one printout stays visible in the flat, the PDF goes to her by WhatsApp or e-mail. That way you both work from the same version.
- 3Check it against the time budget: weigh the tasks against the hours you pay for. If the two do not match, cut tasks or add hours - there is no third option.
- 4Adjust after four weeks: ask what was too tight and change the plan. After that a look every six months, or whenever the household changes, is enough.
Mandatory details
The rooms, the tasks per room, the rhythm (weekly, fortnightly, monthly) and the agreed hours per visit. Without the hours the plan is a wish list.

Leaving the plan on the counter without a word and listing more tasks than fit into the paid time. Something is then left undone every week, and both sides end up frustrated.

How often should what be cleaned?
Not everything needs to be weekly - and not everything can wait a year. Swiss standard frequencies from hygienists and experienced cleaners:
Daily
Wipe kitchen surfaces, clean sink, empty bins when full, dispose of food waste. Mostly the residents' job, not the cleaner's.
Weekly
Full bathrooms (WC, shower, sink), vacuum and mop floors, deep kitchen (stove, surfaces), change beds, dust all surfaces.
Monthly
Inside windows, thorough mirrors, fridge exterior, hood filter, under furniture, radiators, door frames.
Seasonal (2-4×/year)
Outside windows, wash curtains, turn mattress, deep-clean oven, empty fridge fully, shampoo carpets. Easiest to bundle into one big spring clean.

Tips for a working plan
Calculate realistically
3h is enough for a 4-room flat weekly - but not for windows + oven + deep clean all at once. Plan monthly tasks separately.
Agree on priorities
If time runs short, what can be left? Agree upfront - not when you come home and the bathroom is still waiting.
Written is better
A plan on the fridge or via WhatsApp PDF is clearer than verbal - both sides have the same reference.
Adapt, don't nail down
Guests come, kids get sick, weather interferes. The plan is a guide, not a contract - stay flexible.
