Frequently asked questions

Is the employment contract legally valid?
Yes. The contract is based on the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR Art. 319ff) and the NAV for domestic work. It contains all legally required information.
Is there also a Word template?
Yes. You can download the contract as a PDF or as an editable Word document. Both are filled in automatically (vacation surcharge, your canton’s FAK rate and minimum wage), unlike blank generic Word templates where exactly these points are often wrong or outdated.
Do I need a written contract as a private employer?
Swiss law does not require a written contract, but we strongly recommend it. A written contract protects both parties.
How is the vacation surcharge calculated?
4 weeks = 8.33%, 5 weeks = 10.64%, 6 weeks = 13.04% on gross wage.
How much does Clino cost after the trial?
CHF 19.90 per month. Includes contract, monthly payslips, social security registration and accident insurance.
Can I customize the contract?
The contract is generated from your data. You can add additional clauses by hand before both parties sign.
Do I have to register my cleaner even for 3 hours a week?
Yes. In a private household the duty to register with the AHV applies from the first franc of wages, whatever the number of hours. The only exception: employees under 25 earning less than CHF 750 per year. The contract is the first step, registration with the compensation office the second.
What do I risk without a contract and without registration?
The compensation office can claim contributions up to 5 years back, plus default interest. On top come fines, and in the event of an accident you are personally liable. A written contract and AHV registration remove that risk.
What hourly wage is usual?
Hourly wages of CHF 25 to 35 are common in most households, depending on region and experience. The standard employment contract for domestic work sets at least CHF 20.35 for unskilled staff; in Geneva, Neuchâtel, Jura and Basel-Stadt a higher cantonal minimum wage applies. The generator checks your wage automatically against your canton's minimum.
How long are the probation period and the notice period?
Unless agreed otherwise, the probation period is 1 month with 7 days of notice. After that: 1 month in the first year of service, 2 months from the second to the ninth, 3 months from the tenth, always to the end of a month (OR Art. 335b and 335c). The generator enters the statutory rule automatically.
