Nanny share in Switzerland: two families, two employers
When two families share a nanny, each family is the employer for the hours it pays: its own employment contract, its own registration with the AHV compensation office, its own accident insurance and its own payslips. The limits of the simplified procedure (CHF 22'680 per employee, CHF 60'480 per employer) apply per family.
That is why a shared nanny often stays in the simplified procedure in both families, even when her total wage is above the limit.
What does each family pay per month?
One nanny, two families, two employers. Each family runs payroll for its own share.

- Non-occupational accidents covered: 8 h or more per week with this family.

1. Two employment relationships
Each family that pays the nanny a wage is an employer and registers her with its canton's compensation office. In a private household, contributions are due from the first franc.
AHV leaflet 2.062. Simplified procedure per family
What counts is the wage each family pays: at most CHF 22'680 a year for the nanny and CHF 60'480 for all of that family's employees. What the other family pays is not added.

The BVG obligation starts at CHF 22'680 a year with one employer. If both shares stay below, there is no obligation; the nanny can insure her total income voluntarily.
BVG art. 7 and 464. Accident insurance per family
Each family insures the nanny against occupational accidents. She is covered for non-occupational accidents only with the family she works for at least 8 hours a week; the two families' hours are not added up.
UVV art. 135. Holidays in both contracts
Each contract gives at least 4 weeks of holiday, 5 until her 20th birthday. The employer sets the dates: write into both contracts that the families agree the holidays together.

The hours each family pays, where the care happens (alternating or in one home), who calls on the nanny when a child is ill, and how the families coordinate holidays.

Frequently asked questions
Can one family employ the nanny and the other pay it a share?
Yes. Then only that family is the employer and carries every obligation alone, and the whole wage counts with it: it goes above CHF 22'680 sooner. Put the private cost split in writing.
Are there two payslips every month?
Yes, one per family, each on its own share of the wage. At year end the nanny also receives two salary certificates.
What does each family pay in social contributions?
The same rates as in any employment, but only on its share: AHV/IV/EO and ALV, the canton's family compensation fund and accident insurance. The calculator above shows the francs per family.
Which costs less, a nanny share or daycare?
It depends on the hours and on your municipality's daycare tariff. The calculator compares your share with the daycare price for your children, with and without a subsidy.
