What is an AHV gap?▾
An AHV (pension) gap arises when too few or no AHV contributions were paid in a given year. Each missing contribution year cuts the later pension by about 2.3% (1/44).
Why does undeclared work create an AHV gap?▾
If a cleaner isn't registered, no AHV contributions are paid. Those years are missing from the later pension calculation — and the gap hits the employee directly.
Can I close an AHV gap retroactively?▾
Contributions can only be back-paid for the last five years. Older gaps remain permanent — which is why registering correctly from the start pays off.
How do I avoid AHV gaps for my domestic helper?▾
Register the employment with the AHV and settle contributions yearly. Clino prepares the contract, payslip and registration documents for your canton.
Am I entitled to unemployment benefit if I work undeclared?▾
No. You're only entitled to unemployment benefits if you were officially registered for at least 12 months within the last 2 years (Art. 13 LACI). Without registration you get nothing if let go — no matter how long you've worked.
