The road to the assistance contribution
Where you need to be for Clino to help.
You take the first two steps with the IV office. From the first employment contract, Clino handles the paperwork, every month. You don't need the decision for that yet.
- 1
Helplessness allowance
You receive a helplessness allowance from the IV and live at home. Minors and adults with limited legal capacity must also meet one more condition, for example school, training or 10 hours of work a week.

Wages
How much wage does the assistance contribution cover?
In 2026 the IV pays CHF 35.30 per hour. That includes the holiday supplement and all social insurance contributions. What is left after those is the gross wage the contribution covers.

When Clino is not the right tool.
You live in a care home
The assistance contribution only exists at home. If you spend 16 or more days a month in a care home, you are not entitled to it.
Your help comes from Spitex
The IV does not pay organisations through the assistance contribution. Spitex bills on its own, with you and your health insurer.
You want to pay family members
Spouses and partners and relatives in the direct line cannot be paid through the assistance contribution. Parliament is discussing it, but nothing has changed yet.
Zurich SEBE vouchers
With vouchers under the Zurich self-determination act (SEBE), the canton pays the providers directly. You are not the employer there.
Frequently asked questions about the assistance contribution
When can I start using Clino?
From the first employment contract, and that can come before the decision. Once the decision is in, the IV pays retroactively from the month you applied, as long as the contracts were in place and you were registered as an employer. The IV office in the canton of Vaud also requires that the wages for that period were already declared and paid. If the IV says no, you carry the wages yourself.
Does the IV also pay for Clino?
No. The CHF 35.30 per hour covers wages, holidays and social insurance. The IV pays for advice up to CHF 1'500 every three years, but excludes recurring payroll from that. Clino costs CHF 19.90 a month, however many assistants you employ.
Does Clino send the invoice to the IV office?
No, you do: through your IV office's invoicing portal, by post or by email. Clino prepares the invoice laid out like form 318.536 with the record of hours, and if you wish it fills in your copy of the official form. If your IV office also asks for the payslips, as Zurich does for example, they are ready in Clino.
How much wage can I pay?
At least the minimum wage under the NAV for domestic work. The IV has required this since 2026. There is no upper limit, but the IV only pays CHF 35.30 per hour including holidays and contributions. Depending on the canton, that covers about CHF 30 gross wage per hour. Anything above that, you pay yourself.
What if an assistant falls ill?
You keep paying the wage, like any employer. The IV reimburses this under the Bern scale, for at most three months, outside your annual amount (item 665.05, doctor's certificate from the 4th day). If you are in hospital yourself, item 665.06 applies: at most three months per event, within your annual amount. Clino records both items in the month of the absence and prepares Beiblatt 1 and 2.
Do I need BVG and accident insurance?
Accident insurance always, and cover for non-occupational accidents from 8 hours a week. BVG from an annual wage of CHF 22'680 per person. If every assistant stays below that and all wages together stay under CHF 60'480, you settle under the simplified procedure. Clino shows you what applies to you.
I am a minor or have a deputy (Beistand). Does that work?
Yes. Then your legal representative signs the contracts in your name and runs the Clino account, meaning your parents or your deputy. Your parents or your deputy cannot be employed as your assistants, but your siblings can. If a child lives with their parents, the IV usually pays eleven instead of twelve monthly amounts a year.
I do my payroll in Excel today. Is it worth switching?
If you have several assistants or retype the invoice every month: yes. You enter the decision once, and from then on the payslips, record of hours and invoice all come from the same hours. Your existing documents remain valid.
